The metaphor of life

Peaks and valleys, ebbs and flows, challenges, joys, hardships and successes. It is life and it is training. Perhaps the best metaphor for training is life itself, and that is why I apply the lessons I learn in my life to my training.

Each year I come up with a word that will help guide me in my life and in my training. One word. One simple word that can encompass so much. And this year I challenge you to come up with a single word to help to guide you in your life and your training. Put that word on a post-it note. Write the word in your planner. Look it up in the dictionary and define it. Live it.

I challenge you to find a word that will inspire you. A word that you can remember when those 1/2 mile repeats seem to be just too hard, or when life gets so busy that you forget to live. A simple word that will become your life-philosophy.

Here are a few ideas to get you started:

Go
Accomplish
Peace
Risk
Joy
Believe
Embrace
Be
Accept
Dream
Reinvent
Change
Balance
Commit
Trust
Happiness

I want to hear your ideas! Please do share by replying to this post.

Let the trash talking commence

The stakes are a little higher for the Monument Avenue teams this year!

TRIgirl teams of 5 will compete for some swag from our sponsor, SkirtSports.

Here's how it will work: I will assign teams of five TRIgirls and each team will have a team leader. After collecting data, the team leader will submit to me the combined predicted race time for her team. Each member of the team with the closest time to their prediction will win some goodies from Skirt Sports!!!

Register now for the Monument Avenue 10k and post on the forum so I can begin creating teams.

2008 Registration

is up and ready for you!!!!
Get a jump on those plans for 2008 and save your space in TRIgirl 2008 .

TRIgirl 2008

What an amazing year we had in 2007!! It has been a year of accomplishments for ALL of the TRIgirls. As a team, not only have we welcomed many new triathletes, trained, and raced together but we have made new friends, grown closer with our “old” friends, raised money and goods for those less fortunate, and had some serious party time along with all of the hard work!!

Some of you have become athletes for the first time, others have become athletes again, some have taken their abilities to a new level, and many have set some personal race records! What a year!!!

What we are:

A total of 86 women participated in TRIgirl in 2007
42 TRIgirls did their first triathlon
14 TRIgirls did their first Half-Ironman
9 TRIgirls became Ironman Triathletes
We raised $410 dollars in our Christmas Raffle for Christmas Families
We helped 3 families celebrate Christmas with gifts for children, food and basic items for their households, provided 4 children from Mary Munford’s Special Education program with Christmas gifts and bought four bikes for children from Salem Middle School
We raised $2,000 for Safe Harbor Shelter

BUT, we can’t rest on the laurels of our 2007 success!! It is already time to start thinking and planning for the 2008 season! In that vein, we’d like to thank everyone who participated in the online survey. The information you provided is invaluable in helping us make sure that 2008 is an even greater year than 2007!! If you have any other tips or ideas for the upcoming season, please feel free to contact me any time!!

I am so excited about the coming season and the great ways we’re growing yet still staying a small community. Together we are changing lives and making the world around us a happier and healthier place!!!

Welcome to TRIgirl Training

TRIgirl Training is about real women, fulfilling their dreams. Have you ever dreamed of doing something but put it in the back of your mind because you just weren't sure if you had the courage to do it. Maybe you convinced yourself that the time just wasn't right or you had too many other obligations to other people, other things.

But TRIgirl Training is about setting aside those fears and those commitments and doing something for you. It is about being inspired by others who have made the sacrifice to reach for their dream. It is about being the best person you can be. Being healthy, giving back to the community and making friends. It is about women who inspire each other. It is about real women.
This blog will be a record of the journey -- for TRIgirls near and TRIgirls who are only with us in spirit because they just don't live close enough to join us for a work out.
Plus, we will be adding some new features, race calculators, links to cool sites for reading and gear...and of course we'll be adding our sponsors.....so check back soon.
